MANAWATU BUILDING SOCIETY APPROPRIATIONS

A general meeting of members of the Manawatu Co-operative Building Society was held last evening, when appropriations were decided in all six groups. Tho chairman of directors (Mr J. J. O’Shea) presided, and there were also present Messrs G. B. Cope, G. CL Priest, W. E. Ward and G. D. Battle (directors), and several members. Messrs W. H. Ward and G. B. Cope were appointed scrutineers for the appropriations, which resulted as follow: Ballots: Group 1, Y. Goldfinch (Palmerston North), £500; Group 3, Mrs D. G. Simpson (Wellington), £2OO, and Miss I. Mayo (Feilding), £500; Group 4, Mrs Coombs (Palmerston North), £700; Group 5, W. ft. Gibsou (Wanganui), £7OO. The successful tender prices in Groups 2 aud G were £lO per cent, and £lB per cent, respectively. The chairman stated that the fact that appropriations were being held in all groups was an indication of the progress of the society, and that contributions were being made freely was evidence of an improvement in general conditions. The new group 7 was being favourably received and it was hoped to commence operations shortly. At a subsequent' meeting of directors, several loans were finally approved.
