A Peep Behind Scenes

Everybody quiet!” “Flood 1 ” * ( Curtain! 3 3 -A. wave of tlio hand from the stage manager—and the curtain rises on the thirteenth annual display of the Palmerston North Y.M.O.A. gymnasium. Due to careful preparation, the carnival will proceed without a hitch through displays of masculine agility on horizontal and parallel bars; graceful dances and rhythmic movements of tho ladies and girls in their colourful and varied dresses; keen and co-ordinated cxci* cises by the boys; and all the novel and unique items which have been so cleverly planned and executed by those taking* part. A particularly pleasing and effective scene is provided by a beach ball scene, where the gailycoloured beach costumes and balls produce a kaleidoscopic effect that is heightened by the movements of limb and ball. Apart from the excellence of the gym. items, well-known local artists have been obtained in Miss M. Penketli, Miss Jean Scott, Miss F. Doherty, Mr T. Allan, Mr H. Burke, Mr S. Toon, Mr C. Voss, Mr F. Gedsou and Mr Clair- Shirriffs, while the orchestra of nine under Mr I. Speight again ensures tho precision of movement which is such a woll-known feature of 'the local displays. Those desirous of witnessing a show which combines amusement, education, thrills, humour and general interest are advised not to miss this carnival which commences its three nights’ season on Friday (to-morrow) at 7.45 p.m., at the Opera House.
