Miss G. Curtis, headmistress of the Taouui School, who has been on a sis months’ holiday tour in the Old Country, is duo to arrive back homo next week by tho Eangitiki. ■Mrs. George Turnbull is a Tedding visitor to Wellington. Mrs. A. K. Sporle, Bailey street, Teilding, is spending a fortnight’s holiday at Oainaru and is staying with her daughter, Mrs. Lindsay Austin. Miss Jeune Short, of Teilding, is spending some months with her aunt, Mrs. H. B. Burrell, Christchurch. At yesterday’s meeting of the Kiwitea County Council the chairman (Or. L. T. McLean) made feeling reference to the accidental death at Taumarunui recently of Mr. Trank Lewis, son of exCouncillor and Mrs. P. Lewis, of Kimbolton. It appeared, said the chairman, that the late Mr. Lewis was riding into Taumarunui on his motor-cycle in order to make arrangements for his marriage, and met with a fatal accident. It was a very sad ending to the promise of a bright and useful career. Councillors stood in silence when recording their sympathy for the bereaved parents. This .evening a quad dance will be held at tho Manchester Street School in aid of the funds of the School Parents’ Association. Good music, supper and dancing is promised all patrons. The death took place at the Palmerston Norm Hospital on Tuesday of Mr. Phil Quirk, who for many years was nigntwatchmau of the Rangitikei Club, Teilding. Mr. Quirk, who was G 4 years of age, had resided in Teilding for some 20 years, leading a very quiet life, He was unmarried, was an Australian, and a member of the Teilding Oddfellows' Lodge.
