H'orowhenua Association wrote entering a challenge for the Goldfinch and Cousins Cup and notifying that Mr. N. Gallichan would bo their delegato on tho executive. The letter also conveyed Horowhenua’s congratulations on the successful season that the Manawatu Association had had in Hawke Cup matches and expressed hopes for a successful season this year. Makowhai Camp Cricket Club advised its formation and intention to play friendly matches with nearby clubs, such as Rongotca, Oroua Downs, Bulls, Sanson, etc. Difficulty was being experienced in obtaining financo for the purchase of material and tho question was asked had Manawatu any material that might bo donated tho relief workers for their use? —To be informed none was available. The New Zealand Council notified that a sub-union styled Rangi-Oroua with headquarters at Kangiwahia, had applied for affiliation and that they had been advised to get in touch with the Manawatu Association.—Tho secretary reported that so far no further letter had come to hand from tho sub-union.

Several clubs wrote in requesting lockers and a sub-committee, consisting of the chairman, Messrs. Hardie and Weir, was set up to report on locker accommodation. United Club and Combined Services wrote asking for practice wickets at the Terrace End ground.—lt was decided to advise that the same positions as last year would be allotted all club 3, as a temporary arrangement pending a revision of the whole question shortly. It is hoped to have the temporary wickets available by next Tuesday. The South Auckland Cricket Association advised that it had contracted to bring Mr. Alderman out from England for tho forthcoming season and it was proposed to allot his services to Manawatu for five weeks at a cost of £65 (maximum) cash. —Tho secretary said ho had written South Auckland to the effect that Manawatu had made other arrangements for the season. Match wickets for next Saturday were allotted free, but the charge for tho following Saturday will bo 5s per team.

The City Council advised that the ground would be available on Saturdays and Wednesdays with two practice nights. Tho chairman said that when the coach became available, other nights might have to be applied for. Mr. Wilson drew attention to the cramped nature of the grounds last season and suggested considering Hokowliitu domain and Takaro park. He said that last year North street park had to be taken advantage of last season, but that ground was not of the best.

Mr. Hardie said it should be much better this season.

Other delegates advised getting off Milverton park as well. The samo sub-committee as is dealing with tho locker accommodation, was instructed to inspect Hokowhitu domain and Takaro park with the view of applying for ono or both as extra playing areas. The chairman expressed the opinion that it would bo better to concentrate on ono rather than both, in view of the association ; s limited ability to prepare wickets. It was decided to start tho Saturday competition on October 19 with entries closing on Monday, October 14. Tho Wednesday competition will start on October 23 with entries also closing on October 14. Senior games will bo two-day matches, junior A two-day matches, and junior B and Wednesday, one-day matches. Feilding and Horowkenua are also to bo notified to send teams to Palmerston North on Labour Day.

Mr. Weir reported that tho juniors were duo to go to Wanganui on Labour Day and tho Wanganui Association is to bo written to asking for the match. An endeavour is to bo made to ar-

range a Pahiatua v. Combined juniorWednesday match on Labour Day. The ground fees this year are to be Is for senior, 9d for junior and 9d for Wednesday cricket. In mentioning the appointment of Mr. G. Wheatley, of Sydney, as groundsman for the City Council, the chairman said that tho association would probably have to meet the City. Council and discuss coaching arrangements. No word had been received as yet as to when Mr. Wheatley would arrive in Palmerston North, though it was expected he would be hero before tho end of October.

Mr. Wilson referred to tho appointment of Mr. Wheatley as a most progressive move and it was decided to convey to the council tho appreciation of the Cricket Association. “I think we will bo the envy of all New Zealand/ ’ added Mr. Wilson. The chairman said that he had been told Manawatu would bo better ofi than Wellington who had Keating coming over from Victoria. The chairman suggested sending around a box on Saturdays to build up a coaching fund and. the idea, which met with approval, was adopted for those days on which no gate charge was made. It was reported that other associations had established this practice and that Southland had collected £27 during tho season by this means. Mr. Griggs put forward a scheme of approaching businessmen to become honorary members at a guinea, the privilege to include tickets to all representative games. The secretary said some such idea would have to be adopted and he urged members to give consideration to the matter. The association had made nothing in tho way of appeals to the public in the past. The matter is to be brought up at a later date.
