From Our Own Correspondent. On Friday last the school children’s fancy dress ball took ylace. Under the supervision of Mr White, headmaster, with Miss Budd at the piano, the children performed some very pretty folk dances. Boy Blue (K. Henman) sounded his horn and then appeared Pamela Harrison, as buttercup; Valmat Merriman, rosebud; Nola Coilis, fairy; Beulah Terry, chicken; Mary ■ Gilliland, bridesmaid; Terence Lynch, spring- chicken; Laurie Merriman, pierrot; Milton Batchelar, plain; John Trembath, plain; Stewart Mcßrearly, clown; Brian .Crawford, elf; lan Gilliland, Scotchman; I3arl Craw, Red Indian; Desmond Beckett, nigger; Winton James, dominoes; George Thorne, cowboy; Alan Lynch, gipsy; Malcolms Greer, Boy Scout; Gloria Mcßrearty, lavender lady; Winnie Terry, poi dancer; Zehna Terry, Cinderella; .Naomi Russell, Chinese lady; Audrey Russell, sailor; E. Mcßrearty, gipsy; Kevin Beckett, Russian; W. Gilliland, Maori chief; Dale Craw, sailor; Tony Beckett, tin soldier; Betty Coilis, rainbow; June Copeland, ballet dancer; Connie Perfect, baggy breeches; Wendy Harrison, gipsy; Dawn Batchelar, cards; John Gilliland, fireman. After tho children occupied the dance floor until 5.30 they went through the grand march and filed in to supper which had been prepared by the committeemen and their wives and the floor was then given over to the adults, who danced to excellent music supplied by Mrs Merriman, Messrs J. McMahon, J. Coilis, G. Merriman, L. Wilson .and N. Greer, until a late hour. Mr T. Lynch thanked the teachers for the excellent display tho children made and also their parents for these efforts in turning the children out so charmingly attired. Those responsible for tho supper arrangements were Mesdames C. Terry, Iv. White, A. Batchelar, E. Crawford, R. Beckett and T. Lynch. Tho function was a huge success both socially and financially and the teachers are to be congratulated on their untiring efforts. Amongst those present were Miss M. Blake and Mr Clive Nolan, both ex-teachers of the school, and it is very pleasing to see tha.. they still take a kindly interest in the school affairs. Local people who attended the Basketball Association’s first annual dinner, held in the city were Misses E. Currin, B. Currin, M. Carr, V. Sutherland, L. Irvine, N. Lynch, L. Rix, and Messrs J. Irvine and J. Robertson. Several local folk turned out to see “Sally” on Saturday night, among those noticed being Mr and Mrs A. Batchelar, Mr and Mrs C. Terry, Mr and Mrs S. Irvine, Mr and Mi's Iv Russell, Mr and Mrs T. Lypch, Misses L. Irvine, A. and X. Russell, E. Currin and Mr W. Mills.
