Threatened Miners’ Strike at Waihi

CONFERENCE TO BE HELD TO-DAY MATTER RAISED IN PARLIAMENT Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. In the House of Representatives today Mr. A. M. Samuel asked the Minister of Labour whether, in view of the threatened strike at Waihi, he would order a conference of the parties concerned in an endeavour to bring about a settlement of the dispute and so obviate the suffering, distress and dislocation of business that otherwise would be the inevitable result. Hon. Adam Hamilton, in reply, said that he had given a good deal of attention to the matter in the last few weeks and a conference would take place tomorrow at Waihi between the representatives of the mining company and the unions concerned and he earnestly hoped a settlement of the dispute would be reached.
