Enjoyable Evening for Housewives’ League
The energetic eommitteo of the Housewives’ League branch of the New Zealand Labour Party held its monthly social gathering last Thursday evening, a clear, cool night ensuring a good attendance. The ' usual programme of competitions, dancing, gapies and items was provided, the following boing the winners: Cake, Mr J. Hodgens; Monte Carlo, Mrs Wright and partner; peanuts, Mr J'. Wallace; books and authors, Mr Hunt. Dancing items given by Miss DorOthy McLean (La Militaire) and Miss Doreen Murrow (operatic) were thoroughly enjoyed. A delightful supper was handed around at a suitable interval and Mr J. Hodgens gave thanks in a few words to ali' those -who helped and gave donations to tho recent jumble sale held by tho league. Ho announced that another would be held iu the near future and also gavo a short but impressivo speech on tho aims of the Labour Party. Regret was expressed at the indisposition of tho M.C. on previous occasions, Mr Gulliver, and Mr Luxmoore, who so capably assisted at the piano at past socials. A very efficient substitute was found in Mr T. Robinson as M.C. Mr C. Lloyd was again seated at the piano playing with untiring ability for the dancing, an extra being given by Mr V. Tippler. At the approach of midnight a gay throng joined hands in the singing of “Auld Lang Syne,” and departed homeward, thus ending another happy evening.
