Mr and Mrs H. Christensen havo returned to their homo after visiting relatives in Opiki. Miss Vera Sutton, of Palmerston North, is tho guest of Mr and Mrs V. Hansen, Opui road, Opiki. Miss Helen Forrest, of Oamai'u, is a visitor to her aunt, Mrs R. D. Spraggon, of Dahlia street. Miss Sheila McDiarmid, who spent tho week-end with Mr and Mrs Neil Hume, Roy street, has returned to Lower Hutt. Miss Dorothy Perry, "Pukera,” Waituna, is spending several weeks in Dunedin us the guest of Mrs T. Ross, of Claremont street. Miss C. War bur ton, matron of Massey College, who has been on leave for the past six months to visit the Old Country, returned to tho Dominion yesterday by the Niagara and arrived in Palmerston North this morning. Mr and Mrs A. C. St. Paul, Hamilton, who have been visiting Fcilding, left on their return journey on. Sunday accompanied by Mrs Philip Pearson, of Feilding, and travelling via Gisborne, where Mrs Pearson will spend a fortnight’s holiday.
At tho meeting of tho Palmerston North Townswomen’s Guild yesterday, feeling reference was mado by the president (Mrs Hansford) to tho bereavement suffered by a member, Mrs W. Day, in the death of her husband, a motion of sympathy with Mrs and Miss Day being passed in the usual way.
Miss V. Flanagan has roturnod to Wellington. During her visit Mrs Neil Hume, Mrs Gowing, and Miss Piorcy entertained at bridge for her. Mrs Gowing gave a musical evening also, and the guests had a most delightful time. Mrs Murdock (harp), Mrs Merry (’cello), Miss Ruth Feasey (piano) and Miss Mary Martin (violin) gave a varied and most interesting programme, and Miss Martin also sang songs in French, German and English. The death of Mrs John Williamson, which occurred yesterday at the residence of her daughter, Mrs R. C. Donald, Sydney street, will be regretted by a wide circle of friends. Deceased, who was 79 years of age, had endeared herself to all by her charming disposition and magnificent courage and fortitude in ill-health. Left to mourn her passing are three sons and three daughters—Messrs B. Williamson (Palmerston North), 11, 11. Williamson (Wellington), G. P. Williamson (Wanganui), Mcsdames L. B. Garrett (Los Angeles), W. R. Patou (Napier), and R. C. Donald (Palmerston North). Her husband predeceased her 31 years ago, whilo two sous predeceased her in recent years. Mrs Williamson arrived with her husband in New Zealand in IS9S from Scotland, taking tip their residence in Wellington, but in .1911 she an cl four of her children came to Palmerston North to live.
The Manawatu Scottish Society held its monthly gathering for members and friends in tho Cosmopolitan hall on Saturday evening. There was a good attendance and delightful entertainment was provided in tho Highland dancing competitions, the results of which were:—Highland fling, under 10, N. Cooper I, Y. Nicholson 2; seautriubhas, under 13, M. Peterana 1, N. Ford 2; sword dance, 13 and over, E. Hemmingsen 1, C. Henderson 2. The judge for tho competitions was Miss C. Cooksloy, of Opiki, and Piper Scott played tho accompaniments. The prizes were presented by Mr Jcnkinson, w r ho advised those present of the “Gypsy night’’ to be hold this week. Reid’s Band waa present and rendered selections and also led community singing. After the serving of supper old-time dancing was tho order, the music being furnished by an orchestra. Messrs H. Hughes and A. S. Cooper wero tho M.C.’s.
