Sent to Gaol for Assaulting Constable
UGLY SITUATION PREVENTED /• Pet Press Association. GREYMOUTH, Last Night. Adam Pirrie, aged 31, of Blackball, was,sentenced to three weeks' imprisonment for assaulting Constable Patterson. The police stated that Constable Patterson, at 11.15 p.m. on Saturday, called at the Blackball Hotel, and was admitted by the licensee. Ho walked through the premises to the backyard where the accused was ambushed. Armed with a picket from a fence, Pirrie aimed a blow at the constable's head, but Constable Patterson saw it coming, and received the blow on the arm. He grappled with the accused and both struggled on the ground. Other men arrived, apparently to assist the accused. The constable called lor the licensee, who arrived and prevented an ugly situation.
