Germany and Her Jews

Visiting Journalist Gives New Insight HITLER SAVED WORLD 'FROM COMMUNISM ‘lf a Jew can prove that he was in Germany before the war ancl fought for Germany during tho war, then he is free to live a normal life there.”

This interesting pi of information to New Zealanders was given to a ‘‘Times” reporter Alonday night by Mr. A. E. J. Woilschlaeger, a German journalist, who arrived in Wellington yesterday from Sydney and passed through Palmerston North last evening en route to Napier. He explained that after the war hundreds of thousands of foreign Jews from tho East settled in the country and commanded many of the important business nnd professional interests, for instance, in Berlin over 70 per cent, of tho lawyers were Jews of foreign extraction, and in many of the State hospitals there was not ono German doctor. It was this peculiar position that Hitler set out to alter. Also, tho Communist Party and the Social Democratic Party were led almost entirely by Jews. Therefore, tho fight against Communism and tho fight against tho Jews was more or less allied. He was convinced that Hitler was working on the right lines. Communism had been a serious menaeo m tho country. At one timo thoro wero millions of Communists, and if Hitler hail not come into power there might have been a Communist uprising. By saving Gc:: -iy from Communism Hitler had saved the wholo of Europe from it. Air. Woilschlaeger represents a German newspaper syndicate, which, among other journals, controls tho Berliner Alorgenpost and the Berliner Illustrirte Zeitung, the biggest daily and weekly papers respectively in Germany. He left Germany about IS months ago and has visited America, Canada, Alaska, various points in tho Pacific Ocean, Russia, Japan, China and other Eastern countries, xlccompanied by his wife, fie is returning to Germany, but will spend some time in America en route. Mr. Woilschlaeger's articles to tho German newspapers have dealt cnielly with the political and economic position of tho various countries he has visited.

During the last war, Mr. Woolsehlae ger told tho reporter, the Gorman people wero hit harder than anyono else. Germany fought against tho wholo world; to one German thero wero five on the other side. “To understand Germany,” he said, “you must not forget what the peopio went through during tho war and what they have gone through since. The Avar did not mean a great deal out here, but wo had to fight, not only for our boundaries, but for our food supplies.” The stress of war was felt more behind the lines than in them. This was duo to insufficient food and bad food.

Commenting on Germany generally, Air. Wolischlaeger said that somo of tho stones about the country related in this part of the world were quito unfounded. Alost of tho journalists who supplied the world with news did not stay long enough in the country to properly study tho conditions. A real understanding of Germany to-day could no-t bo gained from tho outsido.
