£200,000 Post Office for Christchurch

PALATIAL BUILDING OF SIX OR SEVEN STOREYS Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. Mr. McNamara, Director-General of the Post and Telegraph Department, announced to-night that Christchurch is to havo a, new chief post office tho cost of which will approach £200,000. The erection will be started on the site of the present post office in Cathedral Square, within 18 months and the building should be completed in between two and three years. The office will he sue or seven storeys according to the local limit placed on the height of buildings in the city. Tho handsome new State Fire Insurance building in Worcester street was officially opened to-day by Sir Heaton Rhodes in the absence of Hon. R. Masters. Sir Heaton Rhodes was Minister in charge of the Stato Fire Office when the site for the new building was purchased ten years ago.
