From Our Own Correspondent Basketball Dance. Despite very inclement weather conditions, tiro members of the Foxton Basketball Club held a successful dance on Sin-. urUay evening. The large hall was tilled to capacity and a thoroughly enjoyable evening was spent to the accompaniment of excellent Inusic supplied by Mr J. RNewton. Extras contributed by a professional orchestra from Devin were greatly appreciated, and at a suitable juncture a hearty vote of thanks accorded them by Mrs 11. A. Boss (coach) on behalf of the club, was carried by acclamation. Other extras were played by Mrs M. A. Ross and .Miss Ada Roore. A Monte Carlo dance was won by Mr G. King and Miss A. Barron, while a mystery train waltz was won by Mr A. Taylor and Miss D. Chaffey. Two competitions which were drawn during the evening were won as follow's: Tin of caiulj, Miss J Francis; box of chocolates. Miss E Rountree. A much appreciated Item in the form of a tap dance was given by Misses Mary Hakaraia and Rose Keby. Mrs M. A. Ross conducted the dance In a most capable manner. Supper was handed round by members of the club after which dancing was resumed and continued until midnignt. School Matters. Mr J K Honiblow (chairman) presided over a meeting of the Foxton District High School committee, others present being Messrs S. E. Cowley. M . K McKenzie, l. Mtidford, Ti. RnnariTieujsa. M E. Messrs Perreau. Cowley anc. Mason made eulogistic reference to the services rendered to the committee and school by Mr Rangiheuea, whose uimuling- courtesy and official woi’k had •svith the highest commendation from all concerned. The resignation was received with regret and it was decided to p*ace on record an appreciation of his services. Mr 1. W. Mtidford, whose services as a committee member were favourably commented upon, was unanimously elected t-i fill the vacancy, and was given authority to engage clerical assistance if required. Women’s Institute. Mrs 13. Titoombe (president) presided over a good attendance of members at Lire monthly meeting of the Foxton Women's Institute. Prior to the commencement of business, members stood m silence as a mark of respect to the relatives of the late Mr A. F. "W isluu't. At tlio conclusion of afternoon tea, members participated in a competition which was won by Mrs Walls. Plunket Society. At the monthly meeting.of the Foxton Plunket Society, correspondence .was read from the McCarthy trustees, granting c.(5 towards expenses. This was gratefully received and the secretary was instructed to write to the trustees expressing tlie thanks of the society. The trustees operating on the Post Office Savings Bunk were authorised to bank £lO towards.the endowment fund. The nurse’s report was read and adopted and accounts amounting to £3S ISs 4d were passed for payment. It was reported that Mr Grotty’ b weighing machine yielded 6s 9d for the last three months. The secretary was instructed to write to the secretary of the Auckland Plunket. .Society in rc babies’ photo competition. The president (Mrs-W. Trueman) read a comprehensive report on the provincial meeting held at Wanganui, to which she was tho delegate. Mrs Trueman was accorded a veto of thanks for her report. Bible Society's Annual Meeting. Mrs C. 11. Symons (president) presided over the annual mectinj: of the British and Foreign Bible Society. The president welcomed members and friends and made reference to the long membership of Miss Duncan, of Body's Mile, who just recently had been made a life member of the society. The election of officers resulted as follows: President. Mrs C. H. Symons; vice-presidents, JNliss Be.j and the Rev. Messrs. Kenney, Fotheringham, Brown and Captain Read: secretary and treasurer, Mrs W. Trueman. The appointment of collectors for the corning year was left in the hands of the secretary and war, satisfactorily arranged for before the meeting concluded.
