Speed and Excitement Feature in New Film

CHEBTER MOEBIS APPEAKS AS THE “SOCIETY DOCTOE” (Kosy: Screening Wednesday Next.) Wfieu the gamut of a life-time ot Human emotions can be crammed within the brief span of eight hours then that is something worth, canon g aDOU'j. xnis ia exactly what Metro-Goldwyu-Mayer have accomplished in one of the most unusual • and speediest screen stories to reach the screen lately. It is “Society Doctor,” a gripping drama of life within the walls of ft metropolitan emergency hospital.

Tho picture is laudable for' ono reason abovo all others. It brings to t&8 screen a new team of lovers who, wo hope, will be seen m other futuro pictures. They aro Chester Morris, always dependable for an excellent performance, and lovely Virginia Bruce, who emerges from two years of screen retirement to contribute the finest, portrayal of lier career. Too, there is a third person of whom you will hear more. A newcomer to tho screen, his name is Ivobert Taylor, an excellent actor who, we understand, is a product of tho Metro-Goldwyn-Mayor dramatic school for its newly discovered talent. The story is that of two young internes —Morris and Taylor—who com-

pete for the attentions of a pretty, sensible nurse, Miss Bruce. Morris, as Dr. Morgan, is “fired” from his job in tho emergency hospital for operating too hastily upon a patient. 110 is invited to set himself up in private practice with the backing of a wealthy, neurotic patient in tho hospital—Billie Burke—which he accepts.

Although Madge—Miss Bruce—loves Morris, she feels it is futile love because Morris doesn’t believe love and marriage can be mixed with a medical career. So she accepts tho marriage offer of tho other interne, Taylor. With machine-gun rapidity, ono event follows another within the walls of the hospital. Seldom has a more fastmoving drama been seen-on the screen and we highly recommend it. As for the direction, by George Seitz, it has been very efficiently and effectively done. Excellent performances are contributed by Billie Burke, William Henry, Henry Ivolker, Eaymond WaJburn, Dorothy Peterson and Johnny Hines.
