Ashliurst-Poliangina Racing Club PRESIDENT’S REVIEW OF SUCCESSFUL YEAR i The annual meeting of tho AslvkurstPohangina Racing Club is to bo held next Saturday evening, and the report, to be submitted by the president, Mr R, MacDonald, is as under;— ‘■Our annual race meeting, held on Anniversary Day, January 22, was again well patronised, both by owners and the public. Stakes for the meeting were increased to £BBO, plus trophies valued at £-10; in addition to which other trophies, for the trainers and riders of winners in the two Cup events, were generously donated by Messrs T. Close, W. Howell and J. McDonald. These additions to our programme had the desired effect of attracting horses of quality, and our patrons were provided with interesting contests throughout the day.

“Totalisator investments . for . tho meeting amounted to £9917 10s,-a de crease of £971 on last season’s figures. It will be remembered, however, that the previous meeting was held under very favourable circumstances, coinciding as it did with a substantial rise in wool values. Undoubtedly the drop in turnover at our last meeting, whilst contributed to by several other factors, was mainly due to the lower prices ruling for primary jrroduce.

“The year commenced with an overdraft of £3(5-1 9s .lid, and after., meeting capital expenditure of £129 10s 7J ou much-needed additions to the stewards’ stand, tho debit now stands at £3SS Is 9d. Revenue receipts exceeded expenditure by £129 4s 9d, which amount has been written off as depreciation on buildings. •‘We regret to record the death during the year of one of our oldest members, the late i Mr Hugh Eraser, whose services to the club were recognised by his election to life membership. “In addition to the president, vicepresidents and treasurer, who retire annually, four stewards retired by rotation, namely, Messrs J. D. Balmer, T. Erost, T. Leamy and D. Spclman. Mr Erost lias left the district and did not seek re-election. As only tho required number have beeft nominated for the vacancies, no election is neces-

sary.” Election of Officers As the nominations of officers do not exceed the required number, no election will be necessary. Office-bearers have been appointed as follow: —President, Mr R. MacDonald; . vice-presi-dents, Messrs W. Howell and J. McDonald; lion, treasurer, Mr J. Tremewan; stewards, Messrs J. D. Balmer. A. do Malmanelie, T. Leamy and D. Spclman.
