Main Trunk Again Clear
EXPRESSES'AGAIN RUNNING TO NORMAL SCHEDULE Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Last Night. Gangs of men working throughout the night succeeded in clearing the slips which had blocked the Main Trunk line north of Taihape sufficiently by 7.30 this morning to allow traffic to pass. The Limited express from Wellington which was diverted, through Taranaki on Sunday night reached Auckland at 2.36 p.m. to-day instead of 9.40 a.m., nearly five hours late. The afternoon Limited expresses were despatched to-day over the main line which had been used by goods trains throughout tho day ' although reduced speeds were necessary over certain sections. The expresses from the south are expected to arrive at the usual times to-morrow. Big Slip Near Awakino Per Press Association. TE KUITI, Aug. 19. Road traffic between New Plymouth and Te Kuiti is held up by a large slip in tho Awakino valley, six miles north of Awakino. There is no available detour. The slip is a large one and brought down several trees, while two telegraph poles arc suspended in the air. It is hoped to clear it by tomorrow, but it may take two days.
