SILVERSTREAM v. SACRED HEART NEXT SATURDAY On Saturday next at the Showgrounds, Palmerston North football fans should he treated to a brilliant exposition of collegiate Rugby football, the occasion being the • Charity Day match in which St. Patrick’s Silverstream (Wellington) is to play Sacred Heart College, Auckland. St. Pat.’s, who, incidentally, have two old boys in the All Blacks on the English tour, have played in Palmerston North against High School' iu the past two years, and are well known for their attractive style of football. This year they have another .lino team, and although they were defeated by New Plymouth Buys’ High School (a heavier side), they have a very convincing win over Wellington College and a win over St. Bede’s (Christchurch) to their credit,in .collegiate football, and an equally convincing run of success in grade football. Their forwards arc a-fast set, and the backs, particularly Eeid, the second fiveeighth, and Hampton, centre, are a well-balanced and dangerous attacking medium. Hampton played exceptional football in the recent match with Wellington College, iu which ho scored almost half his side's 31 points. Sacred Heart also havo a convincing record in Auckland collegiate Rugby, which this season was a most interesting competition. Sacred Heart, who were only two points behind tho competition winners, yet had to be content with third place. They lost only two games (5-6 and 6-11) in (hat grade, and in other college matches this season have defeated Stratford High School (20-3) and combined South Auckland secondary schools (11-6). There are several very promising players in the side, notably W. Hare, the full-back, who is regarded as being the equal in class as any senior footballer in Auckland. Last season Hare scored 77 points with his goal-kicking, and this seasou he has again been kicking excellently. The forwards have been coached by “Swin” Hadley, the 192 S All Black and brother to this year’s All Black. Sacred Heart have an impressive liaka which will be given beforo the game. After the match the teams will be the guests of the Mayor at a dinner, at which old boys of both colleges will bo welcomed upon payment of a small charge to cover the cost of the function.
