FACTS about the BIBLE
Juclas of Damascus, This Judas, who is mentioned in Acts 9:11, should not bo confused with Judas Iscariot (Matt 10:1), O'udas called Barsabas (cf. Acts 15:22), Judas of Galilee (Acts 5: 37) and others who bore this very common name, which is equivalent to the Hebrew “Judah.” When Paul was blinded as a result of the vision which brought about his conversion, his companions led him to Damascus where he took lodgings with the Judas whom we are now considering—a man whose home was situated in “the street which is called Straight” (Acts 9:11). It was there that after a three-day period of fasting and prayer, Paul was visited by Ananias, who proceeded to baptize him after curing him of his blindness.
We are not told what part Judas played in this memorable incident, beyond tho fact that he was Paul’s host; but, to this day, travellers are shown what purports to be his house, standing on a lane a few paces from “Straight Street” in Damascus. (These facts are published daily.)
