Struck by Train and Killed

WELL KNOWN INVESCARGILL RESIDENT THE VICTIM Per Press Association. INVERCARGILL, Last Night. Thomas Menzies, au elderly man, was struck by tho lungston-Invercargili train as it was drawing into Lumsden station at 4 o’clock this afternoon and gravely injured. Ho did not regain consciousness, death occurring at (5.30 p.m. Mr. Menzies was crossing from the business area to tho other side of the town by tho pathway traversing the railway line at the northern end of the station. The train drew in while he was on the railway track. The whistle from the locomotive was sounded and it is believed that he was undecided what to do. He was bending forward as the tyaiu struck him and was thrown On tho platform. Tho train was not going very fast at the time.

Mr. Menzies was one of the oldest residents of the district and was a widower.
