Acclimatisation Activity In Manawatu Area
BRANCH DISCUSSES WORK Mr. R. W. Priest presided over the meeting of the Palmerston North branch of the, Wellington Acclimatisation Society held last evening. There was an attendance of approximately 15. The chairman reported that a protest made by the Raugiotu branch of the New Zealand farmers' Union in regard to the pollution of rivers with waste matter, had been referred to the parent body for consideration. There had been, he said, a discussion by the council about the pheasant bag being restricted to one cock and one hen.
A meeting of rangers, attended by 15 or so, had been held at Wellington and had proved a success. It was probable that it would be made an annual fixture.
The iish committee had arranged to secure J,500,000 ova for distribution in the area this coming season, it was reported. Included would be 100,000 rainbow ova.
It was decided that the branch make application for ISO,OOO brown trout ova and 15,000 of rainbow for the forthcoming season. it was decided to suggest to the foxton Rabbit Board that notices be Greeted where poisoning was about to be carried out.
it was suggested, and eventually carried, that steps be taken to inaugurate a perch fishing seasbn on lagoons during the winter period, the license to be of nominal nature.
