From Our Own Correspondent. The annual meeting of tho Apiti branch of the Farmers’- Union was held on Thursday night. Mr W. McKay was in the chair, but the attendance was disappointing. as there were only eight farmers present. Several apologies were read. There has not been much activity in th© local branch during the past year. The secretary, Mr A. W. Viles, reported that the finances are in a sound condition. It was decided to call a further meeting for Monday, July 22, and at that meeting the election of officers will tali© place. A suggestion was made that this branch provide a trophy for a root growing competition and thus revive interest in an event which in past years proved popular in this district. This matter will be fully discussed at the next meeting. Football.

Th© junior match on Saturday in the Mitchell shield competition was played on the Apiti domain between the local team and Rangiwahia. For the first time this season, the Apiti junior team suffered defeat. Apiti was without the services of several of their regular players and although th© game proved interesting, the Rangiwahia team was far superior on the dav’s play. Most of the play took place in‘the Apiti 25. Tho score at half time was 13—0 in favour of the visitors. Tries were scored by Wells (2). Truman and Bourke. Les Thompson converted two tries. Shortly before time was called Qarey kicked a field goal. Tho match ended Rangiwahia 20, Apiti nil.. Mi J. Strahan was the referee. Personal.

Mrs J. Floyd, of Hendersen, is at present staying witli her parents, Mr and Mrs J. Buckman. Mr and -Mrs A. E. Prujean have been holidaying in Wellington. ' Mr and Mrs W. O. Digby are on an extended holiday, visiting Auckland, Thames and Morrinsville: Mrs T 11. Purnell, of Marton block, has been spending a few weeks visiting-re-latives in Wellington.
