Raid on Gambling Den

FINES TOTALLING £175 IMPOSED,

WELLINGTON, June 28,

Fines totalling £.175 were imposed on seven Chinese following a raid on a gambling den in Huimng Street last night. For permitting the premises to be used for gaming purposes A. H. Low was fined £75. The others, for being on the premises without lawful excuse, were fined from £l2 Hs to £3O.

From the evidence it np;> t.ied that when the :iiu took place the Chinese made desperate efforts to escape and Low was nut by a glass of t window and had to bo attended to by a aoctor at tho police station, several stitches being put m his hand. One man actually got away.
