Nga Tawa Ball at Marton
From Our Own Correspondent. Nga Tawa dances always creato widespread interest among those of the younger set and long journeys are made by old pupils to attend these functions which aro the means of bringing so many old friends together. On Monday the Marton branch of the Old Girls’ Association held its annual ball at the school and was fortunate in having a line and mild night which enabled visitors from far afield to travel in comfort and to enjoy the journey. The attendance was most satisfactory and the hall was In every way a great sueeess. Converted into a ballroom the gymnasium Cooked bright and gay as could be. Colourful Chinese lanterns hung below a canopy of yellow, green and blue streamers. Bamboo, ferns and autumn leaves amid which scarlet berries and chrysanthemums showed up admirably graced the walls a d '.he doors were teamed with bamboo, while the stage, furnished' for sitting out, was decorated with greenery and tall jars of tinted foliage and flowers. Miss if. Crooke was responsible for the adormr.jnt of the supper room that was charmingly carried out with scarlet bowls of gold and red bowers and autumn leaves and noticeable oh the mantelpiece were the school cups. One of the house studies was very, prettily arranged by Miss Veda Letubridge with flowers and leaves and there bridge was played by a number of the older people present. There were two debutantes, both of whom looked charming. Miss Dawn Christensen wore a graceful frock of creme Chantilly lace and carried a bouquet of pink roses and maidenhair fern. Miss Jean Baxter, for her coming out, chose a plcturesquo creation of white ring velvet and a posy in pink and white colouring. Miss Mitchell, president of the Old Girls’ Association, and Mrs. K. W. Leighton received in .the entrance hall, the former wearing a frock of black crepe satin and a wine red caps ana the latter black georgette and lace. The committee that is to be congratulated upon the result of its labours, consisted of Mrs. Christensen, who wore black ring velvet and gold lame; Miss B. Croow, blue chocked taffeta; Miss J. Willis, pale pink taffeta frock and velvet cape to tone; Miss It. Arkwright, green georgette; Miss J. Hickman, frilled pink checked organdie; Miss I’. Galpin, white lace; Miss Edith Little, frock of lemon crinkly crepe and white fur.coat. As secretary of this, (ho association’s fourth annual ball, Miss Little worked exceedingly hard and it was largely due to her capabilities that everything in connection with the evening was carried through so satisfactorily.
