Liner Ten Feet Longer
The Royal Mail liner. Alcantara (22,ISI tons), which returned to Southamption recently after live months at Belfast, had grown by 10ft since last leaving the port.
This was brought about by the reconstruction of her bow so that she might derive the maximum benefit from her new steam turbines, which have replaced the original Diesel machinery. The additional speed gained by the conversion will enable the finer to hold her own with the numerous' fast foreign’ vessels engaged in the South American trade.
