Prom Our Own Correspondent. Scven-a-side Tournament. The beautifully line weather conditions on Monday last attracted a, record crowd of spectators to tho Bush Rugby Union’s 1985 scven-a-side tournament. The lirst few fixtures in the school grades were played on the recreation grounds, out the senior matches and finals were played on the showgrounds. The finals in the various grades were as follows: — Senior, Hamua; junior, Tikokino; thirds, Athletic; secondary school, Ekelahuna; primary school, Mangalainoka; midgets, Hamua. Senior Grade. o First round: Konini A beat Ballaneo B io—0; Hamua bo,nt Mangalainoka If 12—0; Athletic A beat Old Boys by default. ’ Second round: Ballance A beat Carterton 13—0; Konini B beat Mangalainoka A B—o. Semi-final: Ballance beat Athletic 3—o; Hamua heat Konini B 3—o. Final: Hamua beat Ballance 6—3. Junior Grade. First round; Mangatalnoka beat Konini A 0—0; Tikokino beat Hukanui B 16—0; Carterton beat Konini B 11 —3; Hukanui A beat United B o—3; United A beat Dalefleld 9—o. Second round: Tikokino beat Mangalainoka 3—o; Carterton beat Hukanui 1.4—0. . „ n Semi-final: Tikokino beat United —O. Final: Tikokino beat Carterton o—o. Third Grade. In the secondary school final, Ekotaliujna D.H.S. defeated Fahiatha D.H.S. by 4 points to nil. The Maori player, R. Mitchell, ot Konini, has been nominated for the Maori All Blacks, to tour Australia. A. Mahoney (Konini), C. Harvey (Athletic) and J. MeSherrv (Athletic) have ail been nominated for tlic All Black trials. Personal. Mr. R. A. Cower, of Ohingaili, who is tlic Labour candidate for the Pahiatua seat at Ihe forthcoming general election, has given notice that lie will be visiting Pahiatua for several days iu the near future to make himself known to this district. A. visitor of position and interest to tlic Presbyterians of this town conducted services in the Presbyterian Church last Sunday. He was Principal J. Dickie, H.H., Moderator of General Assembly, and principal of Knox Theological Hall at Dunedin, and was the guest of the Rov. K. L. Warren, for the week-end. Obituary. The friends of Mrs. Marion May Hutton, wife of the Pahiatua county clerk, Mr. ,T. Hutton, were shocked to hear ot her sudden death early last Friday morning, following a serious operation in theTararua Private Hospital. She was deeply respected by the community and the high esteem in which she was held was displayed by tho unusually lengthy cortege at her funeral on Sunday afternoon, and by tho many beautiflil wreaths from friends and from the different associating and public bodies with which the deceased and Mr. ITutton were connected Deceased is survived by a widower, two voting children, Mary (aged nine years) and John (aged seven), and an only sister, Mrs. C. F. Fowler, Dunedin. Weather. Really wintry weather set in. during the past few days, with dull days and occasional rain squalls. A cold southerly began to blow on Thursday bringing with it bitterly cold showers of rain.
