Foreign Exchange on New Zealand Currency Basis

Tlio Bank of New South Wales, Wellington, quoted the following rates for their purchases and sales of foreign exchange on June 7: — New Zealand Buying. Selling.

PALMERSTON NORTH WOOL, SKIN, HIDE AND TALLOW SALE.

Au appreciable rise in values was evident at the monthly sale of wool, sheepskins, hides and tallow held by Abraham and Williams, .Ltd., ou Thursday. Competition was brisk throughout and the whole offering changed hands. Wool: The finer sorts showed the greater increase of values of lid per lb. Medium and coarse wools were better 3d to Id. Sheepskins: The competition was of the best, half-woolled skins and tine wools showing the sharpest rise of lid to lid per lb. Three-quarter wools sold Id higher as well as lambs’ skins, while pelts were very firm. Hides: Heavy ox showed an advance of -Id per lb., and medium and light sorts were -Jd higher. All cow hides were very firm to -£d higher and yearlings appreciated Id. Calfskins also met a ready sale, being id to Id better. Tallow: The market is very buoyant, realisations being £2 to £4 per ton higher. The following is the range of values:— Wool: Southdown, Sd to Sid; tine hoggets, 7ld to Sid; hoggets, 3-ld to G|d; A crossbred, Gd to GJd; B crossbred, 5d to old; crutchings, 4Ad to od: pieces, 3-Id to 4Jd; dead, 4Jd to old. Sheepskins: Fine hoggets, G*d to 7id; hoggets, Cd to Gfd; threc-quaitter to full-wools, 7d to 7-Id; quarter to half-wools, GJd to 7:}d; short quarterwools, 5d to Gd; pelts, 3Jd to 41d; Xbred, damaged, 41 d to sd; lambs, GAd to 7d; lambs, damaged, od to Gd. Hides: Ox, heavy, 7d to 7-ld; ox, medium, 6 3-8 d to 0 o-Sd; ox, light, to old; cow, heavy, old to Gd; cow, medium, Od to sid; cow, light, Od to o 3-Sd; yearlings, Gjd to 7Ad; calf, light, Ist., SJd to Old; calf, light, 2nd., S}d to S 3-Sd; calf, light, cut, G 0-8 d to 7jd. Tallow: In drums, super, 2Ss to 2Ss 9d; In tins, Ist., 23s to 245; in tins, 2nd., 10s to 20s. FROZEN MEAT.

The Bank of Australasia has received the following cable, dated dune 4, from its Loudon office: —“New Zealand lambs demand checked for the time being owing to recent rise in price. In view of smaller shipments it is anticipated present prices will be maintained. New Zealand mutton, only fair demand, market steady, but stocks too large to permit of better prices and no material change expected at present. New' Zealand beef demand and prices steady and no material change anticipated.”
