Win and Place at Foxton
GOOD FIELDS ARE CARDED FOR TO-DAY FIRST RACE AT 11.30
Splendid fields have been carded for the Foxton Racing Club’s Winter meeting, which is being held to-day and as the Foxton course is reported to be in great order tfie Club should record another successful fixture. The majority of the horses entered for to-day raced at .Levin and Otaki form is likely to prove a reliable guide. The win and pia c e system of betting will be in operation and the first race is timed to start at 11.30 a.m., with the others following at 45-uiinute intervals.
The programme will be opened with the Maiden Stakes, for which the acceptors number 10. As is usual in a maiden event, there is a chance that the result will come as a surprise but in this field the horses with the best prospects appear to be: Happy Hunting Arouse Garter Red
Next is the Poroutaw'hao Hurdles, which has drawn a field of 10 with Manawatu at the head of tho handicap. It is a good field and the issue appears to be very open. The horses at the top of the card, Manawatu, Invietus, Pan go and Diamond arc a solid lot and any of them is capable of winning. The going will bo faster than it was at Levin and fur this reason Manawatu may be preferred to tho other three. The Tiger, Saltspray and Trishna are interesting entrants, while Arctic fcjtar appears to bo tho best of tho lightweights. Three that may bo prominent in the betting are: Manawatu Pan go Diamond
The Himataugi Hack has drawn another good field, with Gold Mission at the head of the weights. Gold Mission ran two splendid races at Levin and she won with 5.9 and was beaten into second place with 9.0 in tho saddle. Dick Whittington was second to Refresher in the open sprint tho second day at Levin and ho should be capable of a good effort to-day. Bodyline, Wasteland, Ethiop and Note Issue arc likely to have friends, also Midacre and Whetuma. The betting will take a wide range but preference may be shown for: Gold Mission Bodylinc Wbetuma
There are nine acceptors for tho Foxton Cup and all have got a show of winning. Moulton Park and Lapel won the big events at the Otaki meeting, while Eminent and Full Throttle figured in tho money. Korokio finished second to West Tor in the Empire Handicap at Wanganui and with 7.12 she must be given a royal chanco to-day. Boudoir is on the minimum and after her Levin form she cannot bo left out of calculations. Tho three that may make most appeal are: Lapel Korokio Boudoir
There are nine entered, for tlie Moutoa Hack, with Gay Boy and Wlictunia claiming prior engagements. Tupurangi ran two good races at Levin, getting a second and a third, while Whctuma ran third to Arctic King and Aeby on the concluding day. The public may go for:
Tupurangi Aussie Ra Gay Boy
Seven speedy sorts have been accepted for the Kebbeli Memorial, over seven furlongs, Korokio and The Tiger being the ones with prior engagements. Croupier was disappointing at Levin but he should bo all the better for the races be bad there. Diatomous and Korokio are others likely to have a solid backing, while Hunting Lodge appears most likely of the lightweights. Punters may prefer: Korokio (if reserved) Croupier Hunting Lodge
The programme will conclude with the Herrington Hack over live and a-half furlongs. Dick Whittington and Wasteland are in other races. The jump-out will have a bearing on the result, and the public may go for:
Debut Merry Ruler THE ACCEPTANCES.
