Linton
From Our Own Correspondent. The annual meeting of the Linton Old Girls Basket Ball Club was hold on Friday, Miss Lorna Red presiding. The balance sheet showing a credit of £4/14/5. The year 1934 was a most successful one, the team winning six games out of seven being winners of the B. Grade Competition. A social evening in June was a successful function. In August a social tea was tendered to the coach Miss Roils and Mrs Stewart for hospitality tendered the team during the year, when small presentations were made to both by the club captain and vice-captain respectively. A bail was held in September to wind up the season when an enjoyable time was spent by all. ~ , The election of ollicers resulted: —Miss Ngaire Lynch, secretary; Miss Ruth Long, captain; Miss Beotha Gurrin, vice-cap-tain. A vote of thanks was accorded the retiring secretary, Miss Lorna Rix and captain, Miss Ettie Currin. At the weekly shoot of the Riile Club the scores were as follows: H. Mcßreaty 66, 66—132; 0. Merriman 67, 70—137; L. Wilson 68, 66—134; R. Craw 69, 67—136; J. Christensen 70, 69—139; L. Craw 56. 60 —126; R. Batchelor 66, 60—126; J. Stewart 60, 58—118; A. Currin 58, 50—108; M. Hornley 62, 62—124; D. Mcßreaty 67, 65—132. St. Colombus Anglican Church held a successful dance on Easter Monday. Several visitors were present including Rev. F. O. Ball. Music was supplied by Mr. Caple of Palmerston North and extras were played by Mrs Monrad. Novelty dances for which prizes were donated, were won by Mr D, Peach and Miss Ruth Terry, Lucky Gay Gordons; Mr Free and Mrs Wheeler, Monte Carlo Waltz; Mr D. Peach and -Miss B. Currin, Lucky Spot Mr J. Batchelor carried out tlio duties of M Mr'and -Mrs Wheeler Auckland, who spent the Easter holidays with Mr and Mrs C. Terry, returned home on Saturday. Miss’ IC Mitchell of Palmerston North was the guest of Miss Sybil Gouny for the holidays. , Miss Blake of Palmerston North was the guest of Mr and Mrs Nash for Easter vacation and visited many old friends. Mr Webb and Mr R. Webb were Mr and Mrs O. Davies guests for Easter. Mr Ryan, Glasgow Scotland, was the guest of Mr and Mrs F. Goungrover Easter, ' ■ Miss Sylvia Davies is holiday-malting in Taihape. .. Mrs Shirley and her small sons are the guests of Mr and Mrs J. Stewart at the schoolhouse. Mr and Mrs S. Irvine left for a two week’s holiday in Nelson where they will attend the wedding of Mr Irvine's niece.
