From. Our Own Correspondent. There will bo much local interest in,the forthcoming election for the. Pohangina County Council member for the Mangapikopiko riding. Aplti townships area Is in this riding and the two candidates Messrs. W. T. Pratt . (presont member) and W. McKay are well known residents both of whom have previously been council representatives for this riding. At the last election these candidates polled equal numbers of votes —the result being Anally decided by the toss of a coin. Interest also centres on the noinlnees for the. Apiti-Pohangina Babbit Board, Messrs. J. G. C. tjearle, T. E. Craine, J. D. Galvin, J. D. Kllgour. H. C. Mclntyre, H. L. Osborne, W. T. Pratt,, S- J. Strahan. in view of the recent discussions on the rabbit pest as affecting tills district, ratepayers should be given an opportunity of hearing the views on rabbit control of the various candidates, so that on election day those returned to office will bo men fully capable of dealing satisfactorily with the present position. Funeral. The funeral of the late Mr. Robert Stewart Brown took place on Friday morning, the service being conducted by air. A. F. Stewart. Brethren of Apiti and Feilding Oddfellows Bodges were the pallbearers. The Lodge burial service was read by Bro. Norman Viles P.G. Women’s Institute. Hostesses fo next meeting are Mesdames J. Malone, W. G. Morris, E. Miller and B. Martin. Mrs. Renwiclc of Palmerston North is coming to judge the brasswork competition and is. also bringing a demonstrator for the meeting. The floral competition Is for a jam jar of autumn flowers arranged for offect. The market stall will be in charge of Mrs. A. G. Prince. Members have been busy making paper flowers for the annual dance which is to be held on Friday, May 3rd. The potatoes for the potato growing competition are to be brought to next meeting.

Afternoon Gift Party. On Saturday afternoon Miss Leslie entertained twenty-five ladies at a very enjoyable “bathroom” party in honour of Miss Dorothy Purnell who is to be married in May to Mr. Trevor Brazier. Bate roses and golden chrysanthemums decorated the rooms. These flowers and a dainty bouquet of golden chrysanthemums which Miss Leslie carried came from Mrs. Chas. Miller’s beautiful garden. Although the afternoon was too wet for garden competitions, the guests spent a happy time and the following were the prize-winners of the indoor competitions: Bathroom competition, Misses Strahan and Jean Cowan; paper-tearing a giraffe, Miss Purnell; a special prize was awarded Mrs. M. E. A. Martin for a most original animal. Mrs. C. M. Stanley and Mrs. L. Guy were the winners of the third competition. Each guest had Drought along a gift for the bathroom in the future home ol’ the bride-to-be and Miss Leslie called on her to accept and to open the numerous parcels, which contained a varied collection of pretty and useful bathroom accessories. Miss Dorothy Purnell expressed her thanks to Miss Leslie for giving her such a delightful party and she also thanked the guests for their good wishes and gifts. Afternoon teh was dispensed by Miss Purnell, Mesdames L. Guy, L. Gould and B. Flavell, all aunts of the guest of honour. Personal.

Mr. and Mrs. J. Cave will this week leave their farm which they recently sold to Mr A. G. Prince. Mrs. Cave is staying at Table Flat with her daughter Mrs. J. EUlott and Mr. Cave is going north to look around before deciding where to settle for the future. Mr. and Mrs. Cave will take with them the good wishes of many Apiti friends. The friends of Mr. A. W. Bensemen will regret to learn that he has had to enter the Palmerston North hospital to undergo treatment. Miss Spence has been staying for a few days with Mr. and Mrs. C. Spence before returning to Main South Road School. The proceeds from the recent Presbyterian harvest sale have been allocated in equal shares to the Home and Maori, India, China and Now Hebrides Mission Funds. Football.

On SaLurday the first football match ol the season was played at the Domain when Rangiwahia and Apiti Seniors met for a practice match which resulted in a win for the homo team by 18—3. Rain foil all afternoon making the going very heavy V. McKenzie scored 2 tries, J. McKenzie did likewise and single tries were scored by C. McKay and H. Cowan for Apiti. Rangiwahia’s sole try was scored by the half-back D. Thomson. Mr. J. Strahan refereed. Apiti Seniors to play against Wanderers at Cheltenham are: Roberts, V, McKenzie, J. McKenzie, Kearney, McNae, Pawson, Organ, Lewis, McKay, C. MoICenzie, Cowan (2), Strahan, Schmidt. Wingate. Emergency, D. McKenzie. Team to leave Apiti at 1.15 p.m.
