Not Enough Barrack

COLD CROWDS AT CITY RUGBY “Palmerston North football suppoiters are the coldest crowd in New Zealand,” declared Mr. A. M. Ongley, president of the Mauawatu Rugby Union, when commenting on the lack of enthusiasm of the stand at club games on Saturdays. He also expressed the opinion that the spectators might be encouraged to barrack if they were allowed into the oval but fenced off from the playing area by a fence running alongside the cinder track.

Members of the committee present agreed that teams played better when encouraged, Mr. Clevely stating that games at Bunnytliorpo were always live lier than in town becauso club supporters could race up and down the line with the players. Mr. Onglev said his view was that the stand was too far back from the playing area on the oval . This remark recalled to others that they had noticed how teams playing behind tho stand had perked up when the crowd gathered along the fence. Mr. Bowler, on tho other hand, did not like the idea, and eventually it was decided to hold tho matter over till next meeting so that delegates couid get an eye full-of the situation next Saturday
