Free Ambulance

MEETING OF COMMITTEE The usual monthly meeting of tho committee of tho Palmerston North Free Ambulance, hold last evening, was presided over by Mr W. Jones. Others present were Messrs Woodfield, Bowden, Caldcr and Turnbull (secretary). Apologies for unavoidable absence wero received from Major J. T. Bosworth and Mr Ramm.

In his report the acting-senior collector stated that the number of cases for tho month of April was 50, made up as follow: City 20, Setters line 2, Foxton 5, Tiakitahuua 2, Makcrua 2, Awahuri 3, Levin 3, Feilding 2, Makowhai 1, Ivauwhata 1, Milson 1, Apiti i. Although the number of cases was lighter than that of the preceding month the mileage, (1551) showed a marked increase. Included in these cases there were 22 medical, 10 surgical, eight accidents, two maternity and eight transports. Tho secretary reported that collections were keeping up very well in spite of the holidays and broken time. The chairman expressed the sincere sympathy of the committee to Superintendent W. 11. Barnard in his illness, and tho secretary was requested to write to Mr Barnard expressing the hope that he would soon bo restored to his usual health.

The secretary was instructed to write to Mr J. B. Gerrand expressing the committee’s appreciation of his gift of a clock for the use of the staff. A vote of thanks was also extended to Mr McKearney for his N donation of ironwork to the service. The chairman stated that such gifts were greatly appreciated and acted as an incentive to one and all connected with tho service to give of their best in the work carried oil in this hospital district. Tho secretary reported on the meeting of the Transport Board, stating that the board would again meet during June, when the application for a license would again be considered, and, he hoped, granted.
