Feasants Clash With Police

OVER ONE HUNDRED RIOTERS ARRESTED

Thirty-seven Jut peasants were killed and a large number seriously wounded in a clash with the police in the village of Kadan in Rajputana State. A police official with an armed escort was supervising tax collections when the party was attacked by an enraged mob of thousands of peasants armed with scythes and knives. The police opened fire. Officials and several police were hurt and over one hundred rioters were arrested. The situation at present is tense. State troopers are patrolling the district and tho leaders of tho Jat community have telephoned the Viceroy, requesting his intervention.
