Pretest Against Hurdle Race Winner
STATUS OF GENTLEMAN EIDER per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Last Night. A protest against Valpai after, his victory in the Hobsonvillc Hurdles was dismissed by the judicial committee ol the Avondale Jockey Club. The protest was entered by Mr. G. Hodgson, owner of the second horse, "Thespis, under rule 8, clause B, of the Rules of Racing, covering restrictions on the granting of gentlemen riders’ ccrtilicates. Rule S 8 states that no gentleman rider’s certificate shall bo granted to any person who is or has at any time been engaged in a livery stable or who is or has been at any time directly or indirectly engaged in the business of training or riding horses. It was alleged that the winning rider, J. Muir, had been engaged in training horses, including Valpai and Illuminagh. Muir stated he had been associated with the working of horses and also made a trip to Dargaville with them, but had received no remuneration, having made the journey for sport. The decision to discuss the protest was made unanimously.
