Te Arakura

From Our Own Correspondent. The Education Board's carpenters are at work with repairs at the To Arakuru school taking advantage of the holidays. The partition between the two schoolrooms is being built in permanently. This partition has, ever since the school was added to close on twenty years ago (being collapsible), been taken down at intervals so that the school could be used for social functions. For some Time it has been noticed that the joints have been loosening and were in need of attention. The teaching staff, to whom the rattle and swing of the partition on boisterous days was a continuous annoyance will appreciate the new conditions. The school’s capacity Is fully taxed at the present time. Though most local enthusiasm is being directed to Rugby some parties still make use of the tennis courts and ladder games are being played. . Cricket also holds attention for many, the slacker season giving more time for the game. A Te Arakura cricket team visited the Makowhai relief camp on Easter Saturday and lost the game to Makowhai. On Easter Monday a party also journeyed to Pohangina getting a win for the day’s outing. The team representing Te Arakura were: C. Avery, L. Hansen (captain), W. Stevenson, D. Parker, N. North, K. Thomas, P. Palmer, A. Hansen, L. Wells, L. Ganaway, L. Whitehead and J. Wasley. The Hall committee held a meeting on Wednesday to wind up the affairs of the recent social. The evening had been a very pleasant, one socially but. the profits from it were very small. The Hall committee intends to hold a concert and dance early .in July. Mrs. D. Binns, Cameron's Line, who recently underwent an operation is now progressing very well and hopes to be home again very soon. Little Kevin Barnes, is still in hospital and doing as well as can be expected. His arm wae broken at the elbow' necessitating long and careful treatment. Frank Carr who is in hospital, did not have an operation for appendicitis, an X-ray examination proving it unnecessary. He is undergoing medical attention for a period.
