Y.M.C.A. Debating Club

The sixth annual meeting of the Y.M.C.A.-Debating Club was hold recently. Mr. M. W. Williamson was in the chair‘and read apologies for urn avoidable absence from' Mr X. Hardy and Mr J.-Garde Grimshaw. The annual report was very satisfactory although tho decrease .in membership'was the .subject of .much -discussion and it was decided to make a determined effort during the coming season to increase the active membership. The balance, sheet showed a substantial credit balance. Members discussed the report and made suggestions for the coming season, after which the report was adopted. —.‘The election of officers was then proceeded, with. Mr. Petersen was redle'cted president and the committee will consist:, of th following: Messrs M. Williamson, G. A. Brown, ,W. Horsfall, J. Leddra, J. Garde Grimshaw, and J. Muirhead., .

The annual subscription was fixed at Is 6d as in previous seasons. A vote of thanks to the president, Mr Petersen, the chairman, Mr Williamson, and the .secretary, Mr Muirhead, in appreciation of their work during the past season was carried unanimously. The club expressed its appreciation of the assistance given during the past year by the Y.M.C.A., and those ladies who have so willingly assisted with the catering. The meeting then closed with the customary vote of thanks to the chair.
