From Our Own Correspondent. Afternoon for Bride-to-be. On Wednesday, a number of the Stanway residents gathered in tho ball to do honour, ill the form ,of a' pantry-after-liOon, to Aliss .Tame Marshall, an old resident of tho district, whoso marriage takes place' shortly. During tho afternoon, Airs. J. AV. Parsons, on behalf of the residents, Avished the guest of honour happiness and prosperity for the future, and Avislied her to accept, as a token of the esteem in which she is held, a beautiful beaten pewter tea service. Besides this, Aliss Alarshail was asked to accept a large number of gifts for .her pantry. Air. htan Alarshail suitably responded for his sister. During the afternoon Items Avere rendered as l'olloAVs: songs by Aliss Alison Green, “A BroAvn Bird Singing” and "I Passed by Your Window”; Aliss Alyrtlo Guy, "Arise, O Sun” and "Good Alorning”; pianoforte solos by Alisfc Garrett (Feilding), “A Selection from Aiendelssohn” and "Butterflies”; recitations, Airs. R, C. Hamilton, "The Bride” and "Richman, Poorman, Beggarman, Thief.” Aliss Violet Green and Mr. S. G. Still. Aliss Guy also conducted a short community sing. Afternoon tea was served by the laries. “God Save the King” brought ail enjoyable afternoon to a close. Among those present were: AXesdames E. Rosser, I. Alarshail, T. B. Aliles, A. Alarshall, B. W r hiteliead, of Bulls, Avith her infant son, is staying with her mother, Airs. A. Green. Air. N. Amadio, who Avas the guest of Mr. and Airs. T. Green, has returned to Feilding. Aliss AI. Aliles, of Ekotaliuna, and Aliss Janie Alarshail, are at present staying Avith Airs. A. Marshall. * Ping Pong.
Another good muster of ping pong enthusiasts attended the weekly club night on Tuesday last and many interesting games Avere witnessed. It Avas decided to stage a handicap tournament extending over two practice nights, commencing next Tueseday and a committee consisting of Air. and Airs. C. Christian and Air. D. Humphrey was set up to handicap the players. An entry fee of '3d. per player is to be charged and trophies Avill be presented to the Avinning gentleman and lady players. General. Owing to the extensive rainfall and Avarm Aveather, an enormous growth of grass is being experienced on the farms of the district and some farmers are finding it difficult to keep the growth of feed down sufficiently to prevent its becoming rank. It is feared by some that this will be paid for next spring by late frosts which may prevent the usual spring groAvth.
