The Citizens Committee
(To tho Editor.) Sir, —The suggestion of your correspondent G. B. Glow 1 * that tho Citizons Committee proposed dropping two ol tho existing councillors" is most sinister and unjust. Why should they be “dropped"? Have Ihcy ever betrayed their trust? Jr so, then lei tho Citizens Committee speak uj). But there is not one tittle of evidence of betrayal of ratepayer interests (the records will prove this). Why, I ask again, should they be dropped unless it is they did not voto for the pecuniary interests of thoso -who placed them on the famous “ticket" last time, for with ono exception, all existing councillors wore '‘ ‘ ticketed ’' last election.
Then, to-day, I have been told of wrangling of a most*, startling nature by the Citizens' Committee for the local Hospital Board election. It is proposed that Air. Hod gens should consent to stand down so that Mr. J. A. Nash, AI.P., could be assured a safe seat after his recent defeat by the Labour representative. For this Boy Scout deed Air. Hodgens is to be on the committee’s ticket for the council elections. I think the committee should make a statement and clear up the position by answering either yes or no to the following:— Do they propose dropping two existing councillors from their ticket? Arc they pledging support to Air. J. A. Nash, AI.P., for flic Hospital Board?
Have they considered arranging with Air. Hodgens or any other member of the present board that they should stand out so as to assure Air. Nash a seat?
It will be most interesting to seo how Air. Hodgens reacts to these overtures seeing that the committee in the past has done its very best to keep him off every local body he is on each. and every time he has faced the starter. — I am, etc., G. ,P. CRY.
