Glen Oroua
From Our Own Correspondent. Last Thursday afternoon the Rongotea A tennis team paid a return visit to Glen Oroua to try conclusions with the local A team. An unpleasant wind made playing- conditions difficult but nevertheless some interesting and josely fought games were seen. Oil the previous occasion on which the teams met, Kongo,ea had a runaway victory, but the result was much closer this time, the match ending with 12 sets all, but the games score favoured Kongotea by 110 to 107. The following are the detailed scores, Glen Oroua players being mentioned first in each case:—

Prebble and Miss Lucas lost to Lades and Mrs. Davison 3—6. The monthly meeting of the school committee was held on Monday evening, there being present Messrs. AV. H. Foster (chairman), J. Herdman (secretary), A. T. Bailey, H. AV. Carter, F. AVebb and S. G. Parian© (head teacher). Correspondence was received from the Education Board regarding the procedure to be followed in making up the annual statement of the committee’s accounts, and the holidays to be observed at Easter. In connection with the iatetr it was stated that the schools wolud close on the afternoon of April 18 and re-open on April 2D. Messrs. D. Sexton and A. E. Robinson, organisers of a dance in aid of the school basketball court, forwarded the sum of £3 together with a statement of accounts for the information of the committee and the Education Board. A vote of thanks was accorded Messrs. Sexton and Robinson, and the secretary was instructed to write in this connection to the gentlemen concerned. The resignation of Miss E. M. Phillips, assistant teacher, was received. The committee decided to place on record their regret at losing her services and expressed best wishes for her future happiness. Messrs. Foster and Herdman, the delegates to the recent meeting of the Manawatu Oroua Combined School Committee’s Association submitted a report on matters discussed by the association. It was decided to hold the official opening of the recently completed basketball court next week oil a date to be arranged later. Mr. J. K. Hornblow, distinct member of the AVanganui Education Board, is to be invited to be present. An exhibition basketball match is to be played and parents and others interested are invited to bo present. A team of about twenty runners from the school journeyed to Sanson last Saturday to compete in the Sandon Sports Ctub’s competitions for the Hornblow and McKelvie Shields. The youngsters put up a good performance in running second to Ivopane for tlie Hornblow Shield, while some of the faster sprinters were suocessful in winning several events for the McKelvie Shield against the larger schools. The outstanding performers were Charlie AVebb, Mary Altree, Enid AVebb Leslie AValiace, Hector McMillan and Nyra Scott.
The school has again been successful in winning the Education Board’s environment certificate—the seventh occasion during the past seven years. 3 H : Lange, chief agricultural instiuctoi of the AA'anganui Education Board, was a visitor to the school on
