Women’s Institutes
KAIRANGA The annual meeting of the Kairanga Women’s Institute was hold lust Tuesday afternoon,, Airs W. McClelland presiding over a good attendance. Included in tho year’s activities were many useful demonstrations and competitions as well as talks-on the Waitaugi Celebrations and the Federation and its privileges. Social afternoons were given to two members prior to their marriages and departures from the district. A drama circle had been formed Which had achieved success. A display was staged by the Institute at the A. & P. Show, and although only given fourth place, did credit to our members. The celebration of tho third birthday proved successful both socially and financially. A Post Office Savings Account has been started, £4 of the Institute’s finances being deposited, which was considered satisfactory in view of donations which had been made during the year, both to the Federation and the club-rooms in Palmerston North. As there were only sufficientnominations for the committee, an election was not necessary, and following is the committee elected: President, Airs P. Loamy; vice-president, Airs H. R. Green; secretary, Airs G. Bavey; treasurer, Airs L. Clark; and Alesdames J. Clark, J. Bur-meister, C. M. Hyde, P. .-Cummins, E. Smith and Aliss Zeta Loamy. Delegates appointed for Federation meetings were Alesdames P. Loamy and J. Burmeistcr; competition steward, Airs L. Clark; press correspondents, Airs L. Clark and Airs J. Eglinton. A vote of thanks was extended to Airs W. McClelland, tho retiring president, for the work she had done during the year, Airs AlcClclland returning thanks for the support given her during that period and extending a hearty welcome to the newly-elected president, Airs Loamy. Arrangements were finalised during the meeting for the euchre and dance which is to be held at the end of the month. Members were requested to dig and bring their potatoes to the April meeting. It was decided, not to change the day of the monthly meetings. A letter of appreciation was received from Airs Will, of the Rongotea Institute. The result of competitions held were as follow': — Chocolate sponge .sandwich: Alesdames E. Kilgour and C. Turner (equal) 1, Airs L. Clark 2, Airs J. Clark 3; handkerchief from salt, bag, allowing Cd for trimmings: Airs C. Turner 1, Airs E. Kilgour 2, Airs H. Turner 3. A written competition was won by Mrs W. AfcCJclland and Mrs C. Turner (equal), Alisses Zcta Loamy, .Daisy Capp and Alolly Small (equal) 2. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Alesdames C. AI. Hyde, 11. Turner' and L. Clark. Competitions for the April meeting will bo for a light fruit cake (Institute recipe) and a bottle of tomato sauce. Alesdames- O. A. Collis, li. AL Collis, F. Cummins and Miss P. Doherty will be the hostesses.
