Farmers Confer
COMBINED MEETING OF D.F.U. AND F.TJ. The first combined meeting of tlic Manawatu Provincial executive) of Ike Farmers’ Union and Dairy Farmers’ Union, was field in Palmerston North yesterday, when Air N. Campbell t\as voted to tho chair for the occasion. Others present were Messrs J. A. McLeavey, A. G. Dean, B. Lynch, J. D. Avery, H. Bowling, E. C. Bishop, L. T. Ballinger, L. H. Best, J. Hodgson, H. J. Richards, R. G. Gower, H. J. McLeavey, J. J. Gallagher, E. G. Beard, B. Norman, H. Seifert, W. H. Gimblctt, W. G. Shannon, W. G. Short, J. D. Balmcr, E. O. Bond, F. J. Lcgg, J. Boyce, A. N. Morcom, P. Koehler and P. Campbell. ■lt was decided to hold over tho appointment of a permanent chairman and secretary till after the annual meetings of each body. A remit from tho Pohangina valley branch recommended support of the efforts of tho Women’s Division to have an Invalids’ Revision Act placed on tho Statute book or alternatively, an invalid bo eligible for unemployment sustenance, the branch feeling it will relieve the Hospital Boards. The matter was deferred for consideration till next meeting. Diamond Backed Moth. The Pohangina and Foxton branches sent in remits suggesting that the Government should provide funds for the purpose of importing the diamond backed moth parasite. Members drew attention lo the ravages of tho pest and stressed the need that something should be done to combat it. Tho remits were approved and arc to bo forwarded io tile Dominion executive. Union’s Accomplishments. A motion was carried' urging the Dominion executive to publish ically in the Union paper, a resume of its activities and accomplishments. It was pointed out that this would be a great assistance to the organisers and keep farmers in better touch with union affairs. It would get over the difficult question that farmers continually asked when approached for membership: “What lias the Union done?”
Mr J. D. Balmer (llaumai) was congratulated on tho success of his efforts with tho Union organiser, to gain new members, a total of 7S having been secured.
