Evening of Recitals
The Makino hall was well filled on Monday evening last when Kcv. E. O. Blamires gave a full programme of dramatic selections, both grave and gay, assisted in musical items by several Feilding artists. Mr. F. S. Guy occupied the chair and referred to the occasion as the last one in Makino when Mr. Blamires, who is shortly leaving for Wellington, would be present. The elocutionary items presented covered a wide field of both classical and humorous poetry and prose, including selections from English, American and Australian writers, while the poems of such writers as Tennyson and Longfellow provided the more solid fare, the audience being convulsed at times with the humorous productions recited. The story of “The Old Bullock Driver,” “The Petrified Island” and Artemus Ward’s “Talk on Pictures” were especially productive of much mirth. The soloists, Me'sdames Coppock and M. Worsfold, and Mr .It. Fade, with their accompanist, Mrs. It. Fade, gave several bright selections interspersed in the programme, and Mrs. Blamires spoke a few valedictory words at the close. The votes of thanks were passed with loud applause, on the motion of Mr. Dickers and Mr. Prouse.
This evening Rev. E, (). Blamircs will give a similar programme of recitals at Cheltenham, assisted by Redding musicians. lie will also bo at Halcombo to-morrow evening, at Waituna hall on Monday next, and at Colvton hall on Wednesday, 27th inst.
