From Our Own Correspoii'lent. On Thursday evening the Shannon Golf Club held Us annual meeting. There was a good attendance of members. The balance sheet showed receipts £B9 2s (id, expenditure .£9O Is Id and outstanding subscription £3 9s 6d which would make a credit balance of £2 10s lid, In his annual report the president, Air. VentryKinith congratulated members for maintaining the progress of the club. On behalf of the members he wished to take the opportunity of thanking the Stern Bros, for their generosity in allowing their property to be used as golf links. The club also had to congratulate them on the splendid condition in which the links had been kept. Early in the season electric light was installed in the club house and it had been greatly appreciated by all. After the season closed three 'working-bees were organised and work was done on the tecs. During the season the usual medal matches were held, and also the club tournaments. An innovation last year was the running of a king's tournament, which lasted two days, and was enjoyed by most of the members. This event was open to members of any golf club and he was pleased to see four Foxton members present. He would like to suggest to the new executive that this fixture be made an annual one. The Hamilton Cup matches were inaugurated last season, four clubs taking part, viz., Otaki, Levin, Herrington, Shannon. Otaki were the winners of the trophy for the first year. The inter-club matches were played in conjunction with the cup matches against Otaki and Levin, while the usual matches were played against Herrington and T» Alatai. The meeting of delegates for the Hamilton Cup matches was held In Levin on the Sth, when all dates were arranged for the coming season. Details will be made known to members shortly. During the year the club had the misfortune to lose Nr. H. Blyth, a very popular and hardworking member, who at all times gave his valuable advice willingly both to members and the club on matters pertaining to gplf. The president said he was glad to welcome several new members to the club during the season and congratulated all members who were successful in the various medal and bogey competitions etc., as well as those in the club tournaments which were as follow: —Senior championship, C. Stern; junior championship, D. AlcLean; consolation cup, R. C. Collins; Rosco Cup, C. Stern; ladies’ senior championship, Aliss E. Stern; ladies junior championship, Aliss Picard; L.G.U. silver medal, Airs. Morgan; Ij.G.C. bronze medal, Aliss Picard. The Rosco Cup. which was kindly donated by the C. AI. Ross Co., of Palmerston North, had taken the place of the Shannon Cup and this was the first time the event had been won along with the senior championship in one year by tne same player. The thanks of the club were due to the lady members for attending to the wants of the inner man. Coupled with this he wolud like to mention the names of Mrs. C. Easton and Airs. R. Collins. The president desired to thank all members who found time to attend working bees in order to improve the course; the secretary (Air. Morgan) for his attention to club matters; Air. Thurston as auditor; and the committee for all the work they did throughout the season to benefit the club.

The following officers wore elected for the coming year:—Life patron; Mr. Stern snr.; president, Mr. PI. M. Mead; vicepresident, Mr. E. T. Moody; captain, Mr. H. Stern; vice-captain, Mr. J. T. Bovis; secretary and treasurer, Mr. A. H. Morgan; auditor, Mr. F. Thurston; liandicappers, Messrs 11. Stern, B. Ventry-Smith, and A. H. Morgan; committee, (besides those already named) Messrs. I. McDonald, A. Blackwood and D. McLean. The opening of the season is to take place on Saturday, April 6. A country member must be a member of another, affiliated club, otherwise he must pay full membership fees. It was resolved to adopt the

Hamilton Cup arrangements as drawn up. Votes of thanks were accorded those delegates who attended the Hamilton Cup conference, the Press, and the Stern brothers. School Committee. At a meeting of the Shannon School Committee, there were present the chairman (Mr. L. H. Best) and Alessrs. Harper, AVarman, Campbell and Bass. Apologies for absence were received from Alessrs. Coates, Ventry-Smith and Radford. Air. AA r arinan reported that refiairs to tiie door locks and windows had been carried out. Tho installation of a telephone for use at the school was left over until a future meeting. A letter was received from the secretary of the AVellington Education Board stating that they were making application to the Education Department for a grant towards the cost of installation of a new boiler and central heating in two additional rooms. The Education Board wrote stating that additions to the headmaster’s residence were receiving consideration. The question of a D.H.S. for Shannon ivas again before tho committee. A letter was received from Air. F. C, Meyer asking the committee to arrange for a suitable date to meet and the borough councillors, and suggested the 17th. In the event of Air. Aleyer’s report being favourable, two members of the Education Board, together with the chairman of the school committee would interview tho Al'inister of Education with a view to establishing a Form 111 under a special teacher in suitable accomodation. The Hobson Shield competition is to bo hold in Levin on 30th inst, when there will he a number of children from the school taking part. The shield is at present held by Shannon School. Plunket Society.

Mrs. C. Easton presided over the last monthly meeting of the Shannon branch of the Plunket Society. The nurse’s report for the month of February, was as follows:—Visits to Shannon, 4; visits to homes, C; adults to rooms, SS; babies to rooms, M 7; older children, 15; total, VS; new cases, 1. Subscriptions of 5s each from Mesdames Edgington and Massie were acknowledged with thanks, Personal. Mrs. Scott and family, of Mosgiel, have been spending a short visit with her brother, Mr. McKinley. Mrs. Gudsell, who has boon the guest of her son and daughter-in-law. Mr. and Mrs. Gudsell, Bryce street, for some weeks, has left for Christchurch. Miss E. Muir, of the Melanesian .Mission, who is on six weeks' furlough from her teaching duties at Tougil, lias been the guest of Miss Brady. General. During the week-end, heavy rain, warm and beneficial, has fallen over the whole district, not only helping along the growth of late crops and winter feed, but having a dampening effect upon the fires that have been burning fiercely at the back of Shannon for over a week. Although many hundreds of acres of grass and possibly thousands of fern and scrub have been burnt, ail homesteads and buildings were saved. It will, however, cost a considerable sum to re-sow the burnt areas and re-build the fences.

During the month of February, the pay-out by the Shannon Dairy Company for butte-fat will he Sd. per lb.
