Foxton
From Our Own Correspondent. Popular Priest Farewellcd. On Wednesday evening a. social was tendored in St. Mary’s schoolroom to Rev. Father Brennan, who has been transferred to the parish of Opunake. The schoolroom was filled to capacity and musical items were rendered. The Mayor (Mr. M. E. Perreau) expressed his regret at losing such a friend as Father Breenan, and said that the people were losing a very popular citizen, as Father Brennan always had a smile for everybody. Mr. M. B. Bcrgin, in making a presentation to the guest of honour, expressed his pleasure at the largeness of the assembly and thanked those who had contributed items. He regretted that the occasion of the gathering was to bid farewell to the Rev. Father Brennan who had endeared himself to a host of friends by his happy disposition, and a strong bond of love existed between him and his parishioners. They were all grieved at his pending departure, but nevertheless were glad to learn that his transfer to Opunakc meant promotion. Mr. M. B. Bergin then asked Father Brennan to accept a parting gift from the people of the Foxton parish as a token of the esteem in which he was held. Father Brennan thanked those present for their good wishes and the parishioners for their handsome gift. He had been pleased to learn that his transfer was to Opunake, but it was with deep regret that he severed his connection with many of Ills Foxton friends. Rev. Father Moore, Rev. Father Heggarty and Rev. Father Sullivan also made eulogistic reference to the guest of the evening, after which an excellent suppei was provided by the ladies of the palish and dancing and community singing whiled away a very pleasant evening.
