From Our Gwu Correspondent. Cricket Match. Bulls Cricket Club paid a visit to Oroua Downs on Sunday last, and engaged the local eleven in a friendly game. Members of the Bulls Presbyterian congregation and many outside friends of Mr. A. C. Lane met in Bulls on Thursday to bid the latter farewell and to extend a welcome to the new minister, Mr. E. Shilton, of Pokeno. Visitors were pre-' sent from Wellington, Palmerston North, Turakina, Carnarvon and Parewanui.
Mr. W. Hadfield had the honour of making the presentation, and in presenting Mr. Lane with a bulky wallet of notes, referred to his departure lor Uhakune, and asked him to accept it as a mark of deep appreciation and respect. He also extended best wishes for success in his new sphere of work. Messrs. J. F. Campion (Palmerston North), and F. A. Holland,, also added eulogies in praise of Jlr. Lane, and said there were many, '.even outside .ms church, who liad been given help of one kind and ’another-.by Mr. Lane, who'had always proved a very self-sacrilieing man, earnest and charitable in all his dealings. Mr. Shilton thanked those present for their kindly-welcome, and assured Mr. Lane that the people of Oliakune were very warm hearted. He also expressed delight at being appointed to Bulls and appealed to. church members to co-operate in th church work, saying that the minister could not "make” the church himself.
Mrs. R. Cooper and Mr. \V. A. Churchill contributed songs, and Mrs. Churchill gave elocutionary items. Mr. H. Glasgow, of Turakina, played some stirring tunes on the 'pipes and danced several steps. Several competitions were also held under the directions of Miss- McGregor and Mr. John Neilson.
