Tiakitahuna
From Our Own Correspondent. Last Wednesday evening, the young people of the district paid a surprise visit to the residence of Mr. and Mrs. D. Rowland. A very jolly evening was spent in dancing on the lawn, interspersed with community singing, games and competitions. Those present were:— Misses V. and B. Parker, J. and 1 Moriey, R. Fairbrase, L. and J. Hearsev, G. .Thomson, L. Weddell and M. Rowland, Messrs. X. Fraser, W. Weddell, I Parkinson, A. Morley, Des. and R. Rowland, S. Richardson, J. Johnson, S. and J. Rowland. W.l. Picnic. On Friday last, under perfect weather conditions, the local branch of the Women’s Institute held their annual picnic. Practically every family availed itself of the outing as well as numerous outside friends. Altogether they made a jolly gathering and entered into the day’s pleasure with a will, thus making’ it a huge success. As well as enjoying a good swim, a splendid sports programme had been arranged, the results of wnich were as follows:—girls (tiny tots): Yal Rowland 1, Margaret Bindon 2, Helen McEwen 3; boys (tiny tots): Jim Ross 1, Harry Lover 2; girls under nine: Miriam Rowland 1, Lola Rowland 2, Lorna Richardson 3; boys under nine: lan Buchanan 1, Len Lover 2, Keith Rowland 3; girls over nine: Aisla Rowland 1, Joan ,McEwen 2, Elsa Maftey 8; boys over nine: Lindsay Rowland j, Arnold Rowland 2, Leonard Voss 3; boys* wheelbarrow: Arnold and Lindsay Rowland J, Leonard Voss and Roy Morley z; young ladies’ race: Misses I. Morley 1. p. Voss 2, L. Weddell 3; young men’s race: Messrs.’ n! Amadio 1, V. Rogers 2, V. Rankin 3; married ladies’ race: Mrs. Lover 1, .Mrs. Amadio 2, Mrs. Ross 3; married men’s race: Messrs. C. Buchanan 1, M. Amadio 2, M. Richardson 3; members’ race: Mrs. F. Vautier 1, Mrs. Amadio 2, Mrs. Judd 3; ladies’ 3-legged race: Misses A. Rowland and J. McEwen 1, I. Morley and P. Voss 2, A. Green and M. Rowland 3; men’s 3legged race: Messrs. M. and N. Amadio 1, V. Rogers and F. Vautier 2. V. Rankin and J. Johnson 3. Personal. Mr. and Mrs. C. Crouclier have returned from their holiday at Foxton beach. Mr. and Mrs. Richardson, with their two daughters, spent the week-end at Paraparaumu beach, Miss Jean Ferguson accompanying them. Mrs. Miller, with Elsa and Joy. has returned to her home in the Waikato. Miss Marjorie Rowland Is home again after spending some time at Paraparaumu beach.
The holidays are over! School opens again to begin a new year. Many lessons will have to be learnt. Mothers sigh with relief that,there will be "something to do” for busy little handy and feet, and minds.
