Despite all the advances made in tlie education of the modern girl in Great Britain, she seems unable to cope with mathematics. This is proved by the result of the open competition for £SOO-a-year posts in tho Executive Class of tho British civil service. Women captured 10 out of the 80 vacancies offered, but not one of those successful took mathematics, which was among the optional subjects.
