Probably the Worst , Experienced There MINOR DAMAGE IN NEW SOUTH WALES TOWNS United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Monday, 7 p.m. SYDNEY, Nov. 19. Au earthquake shock, probably the worst experienced in Australia, was felt in a number of towns in the southwest portion of New South Wales at 8 o’clock this morning, causing minor damage. The towns all'ected were Canberra, Gunning, Yass, l’arkes and Borgau Gate. Tremors were also reported in the metropolitan area. The seismograph needle at the Rivcrviow observatory registered a swing of 21 inches. Due house two miles outside Gunuiug was so severely damaged that it has become uiiu._aoitable. Many local residents and business people import cracked walls and broken crockery anil furniture. Some families are afraid to return lo lheir homes, owing to damage to the walls and doors. Northern India Shaken Received Monday, 11.4-0 p.m, CALCUTTA, Nov. 19. An earthquake shock, the most severe for many years, shook Iho whole of Northern Indiy, at 8.40 yesterday morning. I; rocked Peshawar and the population, panic-stricken, remained iu the open all day.
