SATURDAY’S PROCESSION Tho first shot in tho Combined Bands' Queen Carnival will be fired on Saturday, when tho three Queens, preceded by their respective bands, will parade around the Squaro, leaving the Opera House at 2.45 p.m. The head of tho procession will bo taken, by Miss June Scott, representing the Pipe Band organisation, and she will be escorted by a Pipe. Band ,of 30 .members. For this occasion the local band will bo supplemented by tho Pipe Bands from Wanganui and Bannevirke, and as. Saturday next is tho Street Day for this organisation, tho Scottish fraternity have decided to make this a monster gathering of the clans. Immediately following will be Miss Beryl Oakley, the Garrison Band caudtdate, and she will bo escorted by the champion band of New Zealand. The decorated lorry of Miss Winiata, tho City Band candidate, promises to bo a feature of this procession as hef supporters aro going to no end of trouble to make iior lorry an attractive exhibit. This procession will furnish tho residents of Palmerston North with a musical treat as it i 3 a very rare occasion to have the three musical organisations of this city present in one procession. The official ball conducted by the three combined bands of the Queen Carnival will be staged in the Do Luxe hall on Monday. To cater, for all tastes a continuous programme of alternative modern and old-time dances has been arranged with special separate orchestras for both forms of dancing so that music will bo a feature of the evening and there will be no weary waits between dances. During the evening the three candidates for the honour of Queen of the Carnival —Miss June Scott (Pipe Band), Miss Beryl Oakley (Garrison Band) and Miss Winiata (City Band) —will be officially introduced to the Mayor and Mayoress, Mr. and Mrs. Mansford, and the Mayor will officially declare the Carnival open. Tho committee is sparing no expense to make this function a fitting opening for three weeks of revelry and dance patrons are assured of an enjoyable evening and an opportunity of assisting a most worthy object.
