Universal Suffrage For County Elections
NOT A GOOD THING Replying to a question relating to the invitation of the Waimairi Countj Council to oppose the proposal to amend the voting qualifications in counties by substituting uniicisal suffrage for the present system, Cr. A. Campbell, chairman, said at yesterday’s meeting of the Oroua County Council that there was a move to make the alteration suggested, and it was likely to bn hotly advanced. “I think we cart lend our support in opposition to the proposal, which i 3 not a good thing,” he said. “It would be a good thing if we could do away with universal franchise in. the Dominion,” concluded Cr. Campbell.
