Barthou at a long conference drafted a Eranco-Russian treaty of .mutual ussistanco similar to the prowar alliance. The treaty remains within the scope of the League Covenant and replaces the proposed Eastern Locarno Pact. M. Barthou has gone to Paris to report to Cabinet. The Governments hope to sign, the treaty before tho conclusion of the Assembly. Russia’s annual subscription to the League finance will equal Britain's, which is fixed at £225,000 for the 1035 Budget. This is the largest contribution made by any singlo State hitherto.
