From Our Own Correspondent. The fortnightly cuchrc party and dance of tho Glen Oroua Social Club was held in the hall last Thursday, night when there was a good attendance. The ladies euchre prizes were won by Miss M. Robinson and Miss M. Farmer, while the men’s awards went to Mr. }’. Sullivan and Mr. R. A. Buchanan (Rongotea). Mr. R. 11. Ihlc was M.C. for the dance for which extras were contributed by Mr. C. H. O’Connor. , „ On Saturday afternoon a basketball match was played on the school ground between the Oroua Downs school girls and the local girls, and resulted in a win for Oroua Downs by 21 goals to i. Goals were scored for Glen Oroua by Margaret Poupard (4), Jeanette Scott (2) and Ina Pariane. Miss J. Cole (Oroua Downs) refereed in the first spell and Miss R. Phillips (Glen Oroua) in the second. Tho monthly meeting of the school committee was held in the schoolroom on Monday evening when there were present Messrs W. H. 11. Foster (chairman), J. Herdman (secretary), A. T. Bailey, H. W. Carter, F. Webb and S. G. Parlane (head teacher). Correspondence _ was received from a lecturer on educational subjects offering to present a lantern-slide lecture, tho committee agreeing t.o accept the offer and suggesting two suitable dates. Mr. Foster, the local delegate to the recent meeting of the Mauawatu-Oiou.i Combined School Committees’ Association, gave the committee a detailed report of the proceedings. Matters in connection with dental treatment of local children, and improvements to the girls basketball area were discussed. The Education Board advised that the Inst term's capitation grant had been placed to the committee’s credit at the bunk.. Mr. ly Crosby, inspector of schools, paid a visit of inspection to the school on Tuesday and expressed himself as being very tv ell pleased with the progress of the pupils.
